Women don’t have to endure a sterile, unfriendly hospital environment to have access to expert medical staff and advanced technology. Saddleback Memorial’s Women’s Hospital offers a refreshing alternative: an attractive, comforting atmosphere together with an expert medical team. As the only women’s hospital in south Orange County, Saddleback Memorial Laguna Hills has been consistently recognized for its expertise in high-risk and multiple births. But just as important, the hospital is committed to nurturing moms every step of the way.
“It’s our mission to make moms feel special,” says Terri Deeds, R.N., director of women’s and children’s services. “Their experience should not only be comfortable, but also unforgettable in the best possible way.”
Every labor, delivery and recovery suite is private and designed to keep mom, dad and baby together. All rooms feature new, state-of-the-art birthing beds and private baths, some with Jacuzzi tubs.
Many other spa-like amenities have recently been introduced. An oven installed on the unit allows volunteers to make and deliver freshly baked cookies to patients three times a week. Each morning, moms receive a warm, lavender-infused hand towel to freshen up. Cucumber water sits in beautiful decanters in the waiting room, and a snack cart with healthy options is wheeled in each afternoon.
Designated “quiet hours” allow mom, dad and baby uninterrupted bonding time.
While enjoying all the special touches designed to enhance serenity and relaxation, families can take comfort in knowing that board-certified obstetricians, anesthesiologists and neonatologists are on-site 24 hours a day, every day. Lactation specialists offer support and education for nursing mothers. When gestational diabetes is an issue, diabetes nurse educators are available to help women affected by the condition.
EXPERT MEDICAL CARE
Each year, more than 2,700 babies are born at the Women’s Hospital. “Ten percent are high-risk births, which include low-birth-weight babies, as well as those needing expert care for heart and lung defects, or other complications,” says Terri.
Named one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation by Thomson Reuters, Saddleback Memorial’s Women’s Hospital is one of only a few medical centers in Orange County offering women who have had previous Cesareans the option of vaginal birth after Cesarean, known as VBAC. The hospital has one of the highest success rates in the nation for such deliveries.
“We’re able to take care of newborns with very complex and critical needs,” says Ronald Naglie, M.D., neonatologist and medical director of the NICU, at the Women’s Hospital. “But what makes this hospital truly special is that we never stop focusing on the needs of our moms and babies.”
