What is Osteoporosis?

Last updated 6 years ago

Osteoporosis affects 10 million people in the United States, and eighty percent of those affected are women. Osteoporosis is the breakdown of bone mass, which can put your body at an increased risk for broken bones. This four-part video series discusses the stages of osteoporosis, how it develops, prevention and screening, and risk factors.

Osteoporosis affects aging women most often, but preventive measures should be started early. Talk to your relatives about any family history of osteoporosis to determine if you are at risk. Bone density screening, eating a diet rich in Vitamin D and Calcium, and regular exercise are also important part of the prevention process.

If you are dealing with osteoporosis, let the doctors at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center help you find the treatment option that is best for you. Visit our Osteoporosis Clinic at the Heart and Wellness Institute. Visit us online or call us today at (949) 837-4500.
